Clarification: This post isn’t about an absolute, eternal Truth. And at the same time, in a way the Truth I’m talking about is always applicable. It’s about the ability to discern what is True in life, in order to make the better decisions, based on...well, I guess you’ll have to read the post :)
In these days of information wars and ‘fact checking’, in a world with deep fakes, AI ‘art’ and ‘writing’, orchestrated journalism and holographic 3D images moving in the air – how do we know what is authentic, true?
Truth is an absolute, yet complex word and it’s essence is now extremely hard to find in its pure form…if you look outwards.
History, even recently, teaches us that the ‘truth’ that is being preached to the masses is highly malleable and equally questionable.
Truth cannot be found by looking outside.
Even science’s ‘truth’ is relative – it’s ‘true’ until proven otherwise.
In the spiritual setting, people are quick to say:”Your truth / My truth.” Yes, but is your truth truly yours? Or did you take on board someone else’s mind reflections, because they sounded plausible or fancy, and called it “my truth”?
Will you explore this concept of ‘truth’ with me, and see what we find?
Where do I look for Truth?
So, if we rule out external information and the internal, learnt (stolen, borrowed) information as possible candidates for sources of Truth, what remains?
The source of truth is that what arises within you, in this moment.
But even then, some things are not true: thoughts based on experiences from the past – because this current moment right here is brand new, with a totally different set of circumstances.
Also; thoughts reflected into the future are not True. They are fantasy, assumptions, mental models of what might be one day. And again, the circumstances, come that day, will be different from those of today.
The only Truthful moment is Now.
And even then; if the thought or realisation that you have in the now makes you suffer, it’s not Truth (but a mind-fart).
Truth is always a release
Truth is a release – a relaxation, expansion, an exhale. It’s a full-body sensation of trueness, no matter how much it might be differing from your expectations, values or dreams: “Yes…this is True”, or a shock “OMG, that’s True!”
I’ll give you an example: Life brought me a horse, Gallo. I was really, really, really grateful and happy for having him in my life, but things started to…gnaw. I was looking for solutions, ways to make the situation better, trying to solve the slowly growing friction by thinking, and asking advice from other people. And then, in a thoughtless situation suddenly the Truth just surfaced within me, like a ball that had been kept under water and now was released; I had to let him go. He didn’t belong with me forever. For a while, yes, but that time span was now coming to an end.
I was weighed down with sadness, of course. My inner critic was shaming me (“You failed!”), and the realisation was the opposite of my envisioned dream. But in my Heart I knew the truth was I would have to let him go, and the tension in my body melted, I was relieved – this was Truth.
Truthfulness as a personal trait
Honesty is a form of courage. When we’re acting from truth, being genuine and sincere instead of pleasing an audience for popularity points, we’re living a life of integrity. As well as we can, at any given moment. Sometimes the expression of our truth is as small as not taking part, staying silent, choosing not to interact.
When we’re taking responsibility for our own reactions, even if it means returning to a situation and saying “I’m sorry. In truth…” we’re opening new pathways for everyone to live a more genuine, authentic life.

Well said. Outside. And throughout the article I waited for a word and had not found it until the “Who is…” Your first descriptive adjective is “curious.”👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Curiosity moves us out of acceptance and into the frightful world of alternatives, that flux space where the next truth, the one that will replace the current truth, awaits us.
Nina, this perfectly captures how truth feels in the body versus how it sounds in the mind. Your insight that suffering isn’t truth cuts through so much spiritual confusion.
Truth needs no defence or justification; it just is. The Gallo story demonstrates this beautifully. Sometimes truth asks us to release what we love, and the body knows it’s right even when the mind protests.
